It’s easy for self-care to fall to the wayside when you’re busy with work, school, and family. Money problems, in particular, can make self-care feel out of reach.

“ Mommy you said you were going to lose weight. But you haven’t.” Says Zavier
“ I have released some weight Zavier,” I replied slightly hurt for being put on blast.
“Ok, but your arms are still big (holding his hands apart) when they should be smaller (bringing his hands in closer together). You need to work out.”
As I’m listening to my 8 yr old son point out how I’m not living the lessons that I’m teaching them. I start to reflect on why do I hit weight-loss plateaus? Why am I not going to the gym?

These meetings used to be bittersweet because its the moment that not only am I holding the school accountable for my son's progress, but also […]
Once we get home and we’re going into the house Zavier says “ Mommy I’m going to my room so you can have time to yourself. You seemed stressed out.”
As I watch both of my boys go up the stairs I’m in awe that my little boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder who could not empathize a year ago is now honing into how I feel by my body language and tone. It’s also a moment to check in with myself because obviously my behavior indicates I’m stressed.
“ Mommy I want to me Boruto this Halloween, Naruto on the 2nd Halloween, Deadpool on the 3rd one, My Hero Academia for the 4th one and ….for the fifth one I’m going to be a Ninja. Ok?” After I tell him ok he runs back up the stairs.
